Taking The Reader Into Account
Enter the following prompt into ChatGPT:
“Based on this job description, what is the biggest challenge someone in this position would face day-to-day?“
After this, go to the job description of the job you are applying for, and copy-paste it beneath the prompt in ChatGPT. Based on the result, you now know the biggest pain point of this job. We then use this to spark a connection with the reader (the recruiter or hiring manager).
Connect Your Current Role With The Position You Are Applying For
The aim of this step is to connect the current role you are working in with the role or position that you are applying for. For the first step, use the following prompt in ChatGPT:
“You are currently working as a sales account manager in the retail industry and you are applying for this product manager position at Apple.
Write an attention-grabbing hook for your cover letter that highlights your experience and qualifications in a way that shows you empathize and can successfully take on the challenges of the product manager role.

The output is not expected to be perfect but it will give you a lot of interesting ideas on how to write a good hook for your cover letter.
The worst case scenario for this step is that ChatGPT generates an introductory paragraph that shows the reader that you have understood the pain points of the job and done the homework in researching the role that you are applying for.

Writing Your Cover Letter
For the next step in the cover letter writing process, paste the hook that was previously created and add the following sentence to the prompt:
